The journey of the Jolivet family began in 1926 when Louis Jolivet, the cellar master at Château de Tracy, and Lucien Jolivet started buying wine in bulk, bottling, and marketing it in the Sancerre region. The second generation, led by Jacques Jolivet, Lucien’s son, expanded this activity by creating a beverage distribution structure. In 1987, Pascal Jolivet, Jacques’ son, established the Pascal Jolivet brand. From owning no vineyards in 1990 to managing an estate spanning over 120 hectares today, the Pascal Jolivet estate covers areas in Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé, with an additional 60 hectares in Touraine dedicated to the "Attitude" label

The name Almaviva, though it has an Hispanic sonority, belongs to classical French literature: Count Almaviva is the hero of The Marriage of Figaro, the famous play by Beaumarchais (1732-1799), later turned into an opera by the genius of Mozart. The label is Chile’s ancestral history, which symbolizes their vision of the earth and the cosmos. In 1997, Baroness Philippine de Rothschild, Chairman of the Advisory Board of Baron Philippe de Rothschild SA, and Eduardo Guilisasti Tagle, Chairman of Viña Concha y Toro S.A., sealed a partnership agreement with a view to create an exceptional Franco-Chilean wine called Almaviva.

Located on the fourth floor of Dharmawangsa Square, Privy offers a warm and cozy ambiance, with an intimate setup, soft lighting, and walls lined with wine bottles. The main menu features a variety of Italian-inspired dishes, including starters, salads, soups, pastas, and an assortment of meat-centered mains. The Carménère grape is often associated with Chile, but did you know that this variety is a cross between the Cabernet Franc and the Gros Cabernet, originally from Bordeaux? Before having an important role in the Bordeaux blend, it was planted in the Graves area. Around 1850, Europe’s vines were ravaged by an insect pest known as Phylloxera, which wiped out around 40% of the vines and vineyards, and France was particularly badly affected. In fact, Carménère disappeared altogether in France

Let's discuss the renowned Champagne region of France. Did you know that the 'Champagne Hillsides, Houses & Cellars' are together listed as official UNESCO World Heritage sites? The Champagne appellation d'origine contrôlée production zone were defined by law in 1927, covering about 34,300 hectares across 319 villages, also known as "crus". There are nearly 280,000 plots cared for by over 16,000 growers, with most plots being quite small, around 2.5 hectares on average.

Around 800 BCE, the Greeks landed in southern Italy and found that the inhabitants of this land were already growing grapes and drinking wine. It was very much part of their everyday life, so much so that the Greeks named this country 'Oenotria', the land of wines!

Is there anything more sensuous than enjoying a glass of wine with some rich, chocolate? It's a classic pairing, one that speaks of indulgence and pure enjoyment of the senses. What is it exactly that makes these two pleasures so good for romance? Perhaps it is chocolate's 'aphrodisiac' properties (it triggers a release of serotonin and phenylethylamine, associated with mood boosting and mild sexual stimulation). Tied with wine's smooth taste, gradual loosening of stress and inhibitions, well, that seems like the right duo to dial up desire! However, not all wines can be paired with chocolate, and so if you're hoping for an evening of romance, let me tell how to make the perfect pairing

It took me a moment to fully appreciate the spectacular clifftop views, high above the Indian Ocean, when I arrived at the sparkling di Mare Restaurant at Karma Kandara. It was a beautiful afternoon, perfect weather for a wine tasting. Through their global network, the Karma Group has secured a selection of its own-branded wines, white-labelled bottles prepared just for them in partnership with hand-selected vineyards.

There is a pivotal moment in the history of wine which brought attention to Napa, California. This moment was called The Judgement of Paris (a play on words from an ancient Greek myth!) A wine-tasting comparison between French and Californian wines was organised in Paris on 24 May 1976 by British wine merchants, Steven Spurrier and Patricia Gallagher. Nine French judges did blind tastings of top-quality Chardonnays, as well as Bordeaux reds from France and Cabernet Sauvignons from Napa. The results were shocking. The Napa wines won in both categories and for the first time in history, wines from the New World were judged better than the Old World.

I love Merlot. I like how it tastes and I like how it sounds... Merlot. The name is said to originate from a local black bird in France, known as a merlau in its original Latin derivative, who enjoyed eating the ripe grapes straight off the vine.

When we hear “Bordeaux” we always think of good wines, wines that are luxurious and oftentimes expensive. These are wines that are likely to impress others if you order a bottle in a restaurant! But did you know there are about 10,000 wine producers in the whole of Bordeaux and not all produce luxurious and expensive wines, in fact most of them are affordable and not at all luxurious. I will take you to a very interesting country, Chile. Chile extends 4300 km from north to south but is only 160 km wide. Imagine 160 km wide is only about the same as Bundaran HI Jakarta to Gedung Sate Bandung or from Kuta Bali to Gilimanuk port and connects the Pacific Ocean and the Andes Mountains. And from the desert in the north to Patagonia in the South.

Burgundy is a topic that is difficult to study but very pleasing to taste. For me it is soft, delicate, and delicious. Every glass, a different taste, the whispers of different villages speaking their own language. You will never see the word Burgundy on the label of the wines , rather it will say Bourgognes, the French word.

I am a big fan of Italian wines. For me they are bold, straight forward yet elegant and full of character. Enjoying layer upon layer, the aroma and flavour in the Italian wines I savoured  were  intense.
